Corporate Mission

MetroCommute was formed in 1994 to provide intelligent transportation solutions to firms, organizations, and the traveling public. MetroCommute capitalizes on the convergence of recent advances in communications technology and the widening deployment of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) by public agencies and private transportation providers, to enhance the mobility of people and goods.

MetroCommute recognizes the internet as the single most significant advance in communications technology since television. The firm relies on this information backbone to deliver real-time transportation information instantly to the work place, to the home, and to vehicles in motion.

As public transportation agencies reduce their spending on new infrastructure, the have sought to use existing facilities more efficiently (transportation systems management). This has led to a rapid expansion in the availability of real-time transportation information. At the same time, the deployment of private transportation monitoring systems (especially video surveillance) is becoming increasingly practical, as hardware and communications costs continue to decline. MetroCommute is committed to collecting and compiling this information, and delivering it to those who can most benefit from it - firms and organizations that rely on transportation, and to the traveling public.

The most effective way to increase mobility of goods and people in an era of limited infrastructure opportunities is through the better management of existing transportation systems. Key to this concept is providing as much real-time transportation information to the traveling public as possible. This information allows people to make intelligent trip choices by avoiding areas of congestion and delay. It also helps people take advantage of facilities and/or time periods where excess transportation system capacity still exists.

Corporate Expertise

The firm's expertise in intelligent transportation solutions is based on an outgrowth of the experience of its principals and staff in traffic and transit modeling, real time internet information systems, data collection and analysis, and transportation/environmental planning.

The firm's approach is guided by the principals' more than forty years of combined experience in transportation planning. Daniel Broe's expertise in geographical information systems (GIS) and transit modeling is complemented by Evan Lemonides' highly regarded proficiency in traffic modeling. Dr. Broe and Mr. Lemonides use the latest advances in technology, and their staff of skilled scientists, engineers, planners, and technicians, to develop and extend the technology on metrocommute.com.

The firm has developed many productive private public partnerships, and participates in both funded and private venture projects.
